Blogs You Should Add to Your RSS Feeds

Outside of a degree in banking and finance, money lessons today is a blended rojak of investing, saving, bonds, and personal finance blogs.

  • How do you make sense of all the data on the web?
  • How can you best manage it?
  • How do you best consume the content once you have curated it?

That’s what this article is all about.

We’re going to talk about how to set up an RSS feed and how to best consume financial content in an efficient manner.

Setting Up Your RSS Feed

An RSS feed is essential if you want to consume content on a regular basis from many blogs.

What is it?

Basically, an RSS feed compiles information on all the websites you want to follow into one easy to read location.

Let’s say, for example, you want to follow five different blogs. Without an RSS feed, you have two choices. Open five tabs. Finish reading them one by one and scanning for updates. Or, go into each one and steadily click away at Favourites and checking what is the latest post.

An RSS Feed allows you to skip through all of it by placing all of the blogs in an orderly manner for your consumption. You decide which websites to follow. You decide which websites to remove. Also, no pop-ups.

Here’s what mine looks like.

You can also add and remove content sources if you find they add no value.

Over time, this curation process results in content most actionable and useful to you.

The advantages of doing this are obvious:

  1. It saves you time and data from entering and exiting websites
  2. No more ads or popups
  3. Instantly see at a glance which articles you want to read and which you don’t.
  4. Instantly see which articles have been read and which you haven’t so you can catch up instantly

For starters, I would recommend using Feedly to add all your favourite blogs. You can do it in 4 simple steps:

  1. Go to https://feedly.com/i/discover
  2. Search for a particular blog and “Follow” it as per the image below
  3. Click on “New Feed”.
  4. Type in a Feed name (like a category where you want to park the blog under) and click “Create”. And there you have it…

6 Investing Blogs to Add to your RSS Feeds

What if you are not sure of what investing blogs to add from the start?

Moreover, when it comes to adding such websites, it makes sense to only subscribe to RSS feeds that actually add value to you. There is no point trying to add all the sites and suffer from information overload.

Thus, we’ve compiled a few investing blogs from different niches across Singapore. While the list may not be exhaustive of all worthy blogs, you would probably still benefit greatly from the list below.

Let’s get started!

#1 – Seedly The Ultimate Personal Finance Vault

If you are unaware, Seedly started off as a mobile app in 2016 with the sole reason of helping people track their expenses and in turn, make smarter financial decisions.

However, Seedly pivoted towards the Facebook group which boast a total of 17,100+ members and managed to build one of the most impactful blogs in personal finance and investment-related topics.

A quick look at their style reveals a less formal yet professional writing tone characterized by short paragraphs and generous use of infographics.

Personally, I have benefitted from many of the interesting, easy-to-digest articles which are churned out daily from them.

Some great posts from Seedly include:

  1. Your Personal Finance Journey Starts With This
  2. CPF Hacks and Tips for Singaporeans
  3. Ultimate Cheatsheet: Cheapest Brokerage in Singapore

As a whole, they aggregate and compile information rather meaningfully. I’ve personally found their money hacks rather useful from which phone plan is the most value for money for unlimited data to travelling to JB via train.

#2 Probutterfly – Heavy Focus on Singapore REITs

Contrary to its slogan of “Trade like a Pro”, Probutterfly’s blog content is entirely about REITs and has managed to capture the attention of many Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) enthusiasts.

Inside, the blog covers many different REITs extensively, touching on more in-depth areas like:

  • REIT Sponsor
  • Lease Structure
  • Gearing Ratio
  • Outlook + Acquisition Pipeline and more.

As you can guess it, each article is pretty long and the use of tone is very professional. They also supplement the long write-up with a good blend of illustrative images, tables and diagrams.

REIT lovers can also find out more about the blog’s timely analysis of a particular REIT when certain related events occur.

Here are 3 great posts from Probutterfly:

  1. Review of Eagle Hospitality Trust IPO and the Queen Mary
  2. Parkway Life REIT
  3. Locking In Our REIT Investment Gains

#3 Smallcapasia – Start Small, Win Big

As the name suggests, SmallCapAsia is a platform that talks about small cap stocks in general. Hence, the website also regularly covers IPOs hailing from Singapore and Malaysia.

A peek at the site reveals well-structured content supplemented with plenty of images to go along with it. We also like how the stories are kept informative and yet, easy to digest.

On top of that, SmallCapAsia provides several useful investment tools which both beginner and intermediate investors can tap on such as:

  • Investing quiz on its homepage
  • Free stock report and
  • 10-step cheat-sheet

Last but not least, you can also check out its 3 interesting posts below:

  1. 3 Defensive Stocks to Buy During a Recession
  2. 3 Exciting Small-Cap Stocks With Promising Growth
  3. 12 Investing Nuggets of Wisdom from Warren Buffet

#4 Investment Moats – One of the Pioneers of Financial Blogs

Quick fact: InvestmentMoats.com is one of the oldest local investment sites ‘born’ in 2005 by Mr. Kyith Ng. It started off with Kyith aiming to document his personal finance experiences but have grown leaps and bounds since then.

Although many investors may be spooked by his incredibly long posts, the posts are generally broken down into readable sections with clear headers. Furthermore, since the blog owner frequently talks about his own life experiences, many people feel a personal sense of belonging to his blog not found elsewhere.

In terms of coverage, the website also encompasses a huge variety of financial content and tools like how to build a wealth foundation, a course on how to invest in REITs and even a free stock portfolio tracker.

And that’s not all. Here are 3 popular posts sourced from his blog:

  1. https://investmentmoats.com/active-investing/
  2. https://investmentmoats.com/wealth-building-2/get-rich-stay-wealthy-formula/
  3. https://investmentmoats.com/budgeting/get-rich-how-to-pay-yourself-first/

#5 Trading with Rayner – A Haven for Traders

Tradingwithrayner.com has a purposeful and captivating goal: To save every retail investor from “self-destruction”.

In order to do that, the founder Rayner has poured his heart and soul into creating tons of free guides, content and tips for his readers looking to learn the art/science of profitable trading.

Traders can often see that Rayner is the face of his website and has constantly churned out content over the years.

Being a modern-day education platform, TradingwithRayner has also branched out from just the usual blog content to managing a Facebook group, Youtube channel and Telegram channel. This means that you have more avenues as to where to follow him!

Here are some of Rayner’s great posts on trading:

  1. Forex Trading Singapore
  2. Jesse Livermore Quotes
  3. Intraday Trading

#6 Value Invest Asia – Advocating Value Investing in Asia

Unlike the US market, it is a tough hurdle to find detailed information about any company in Asia with a simple search. As such, Value Invest Asia started as a simple idea – to democratize value investing and seek out investment opportunities in this Asian region.

The blog also provides investment content of different genres to its readers with things like podcast, monthly newsletter and free resources for download.

In addition, you can also see that most of the site’s content is layered in a magazine-style format touching mainly on companies or leaders from Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.

Last but not least, some of their great blog posts include:

  1. Value Investing 101
  2. Financial Jargons
  3. 5 Things to Know Before You Start Investing

Conclusion & Bonus

Well, there you have it.

In fact, the Singapore Exchange SGX Orb Awards recognizes the impact of useful financial information being published by various local and international blogs. This can only mean that many investors are getting better by the day thanks to these platforms and you wouldn’t want to be left out.

Whether you’re looking at small-cap stocks, REITs or cryptocurrencies, there are already established financial blogs to act as stepping stones for you.

The best part?

Most of the articles and resources inside the blogs are free, so you won’t have to break the bank as you pick up your investment knowledge. Thus, I feel that setting up an RSS feed can be an excellent habit for budding investors given the tons of value that it will bring.

Without doubt, there are probably countless other blogs and websites some of you like to frequent and read. Hopefully, this RSS feed system will help you compile all of it into one useful place and make life easier for all of you.
