After setting my first set of goals, I felt that I would like to achieve more. Hence, I decided to set 4 more goals here and round it to 10 goals for 2011!:
#7 – I read 30 minutes everyday.
Why? I learned a lot by reading books. I also get lots of inspiration from reading. It keeps me going and motivated. It also provide topics to share on this blog. Hence, I should develop a habit to read regularly.
What is the person I need to be? I need to be disciplined. There will be times where I will be tired after work or get home late at night. But they should not be an excuse. I should read as soon as I get home and not put off reading before sleep (because I tend to doze off while reading 😛 ).
[Free Ebook] How should you invest your first $20,000?
We asked 14 Singapore finance bloggers to share what they would do if they could go back in time and invest their first $20,000. They can no longer rewind time, but you can learn from their experience and hopefully start with a better footing.
#8 – I run 10 minutes for 2.4km.
Why? For guys, this is something familiar to you. I used to be able to run 2.4km during IPPT effortlessly. I was clocking GOLD standard. Now, I am only able to do 11 minutes, a SILVER standard. I have been wanting to get GOLD for the past 2 years but did not really set it as a goal. I guess it is time to make it a challenge and make myself honor it. If not now, when?
What is the person I need to be? Super disciplined! Running regularly is one thing. But to train for a timing is much more difficult. There will definitely be times where laziness will set in and make me give up. But I must train to have a stronger psychology, to take hardship, and it is something that I can apply similarly in other areas of my life.
#9 – I help 80 people be more financially literate.
Why? Just like goal #3 I want to reach out and promote financially literacy. I believe Dennis is doing a great job educating the public on financially literacy. I want to help 80 people see how they can benefit from Dennis’s seminars and encourage them to enroll the courses. I think this would be the best way to help people be more financially responsible and smart.
What is the person I need to be? I must show the belief that I have that the courses will be beneficial to them. I have to think of ways to help them see the possibility that they can make it financially and inspire them to take action. This takes good interpersonal skills which I have more to learn.
#10 – I am in a relationship.
Why? No man is an island. Every man needs a close partner in his life whom he can share his life journey with. There’s a woman behind every successful man. Having a strong relationship and closely knitted family is part of a fulfilling life. Dennis said, “成家立业”，which means you build a home first before you strike out your career.
What is the person I need to be? I need to be loving, understanding, honest, patient and sensitive to her needs. It will get increasingly difficult as time goes by, especially beyond the “honeymoon period”. Both of us would need to pay attention to the relationship and put in effort to keep it healthy and strong.
I am quite surprised I am willing to share so many personal stuffs with you. This shows how sincere I am to let you see a real life example, living the things that I preached. I will be your guinea pig if I fail and I will be your inspiration when I succeed – your life is definitely worth living to the fullest!
